Female Infertility In Ayurveda- Vedic Karma
What Ayurveda Says About Female Infertility:
The term "Infertility" in Ayurvedic terms refers to the inability or failure of a reproductive woman to carry the pregnancy. Modern medicine has defined infertility as the biological inability of a female body to reproduce even after having regular and unprotected sexual intercourse for 12 months or more.
Atharvaveda is the root generator of the concept of infertility in Ayurveda. It has highlighted the significance of curing infertility.
Infertility can occur in both genders and is becoming an alarming problem nowadays. While modern medicine might not have successfully treated infertility in women, Ayurveda has provided them with many practical and efficient remedies to cure the disease. Ayurvedic remedies can help improve egg quality, women's ovulation, infections in the reproductive system, etc.
Causes of Infertility in Females:
Increased Follicle Stimulating Hormone: Amongst many other hormones secreted by the pituitary gland in the body, FCH is also one. The purpose of this hormone is to stimulate follicle growth in the ovary, which causes the eggs to mature for fertilization. If the FSH level is high in the blood, it can depict the malfunctioning of the ovaries, which can be a contributing reason for infertility. Moreover, FSH increases with age, which is why most women cannot reproduce in their later ages.
Blockage of Fallopian Tubes: Fallopian tube obstruction is one of the biggest reasons for female infertility. All of us are well aware that fertilization takes place inside the fallopian tubes; hence the obstruction of the tubes can refer to the absence of fertilization and pregnancy.
Endometriosis: Endometriosis refers to a condition in which the lining of the uterus starts growing but not in the uterus. It grows in the other parts of the abdomen, such as the pelvic area, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Women who suffer from this condition can experience a drop in their fertility by approximately 12-35%.
Age: Age is one of the biggest reasons for infertility in females. A woman's ovaries stop functioning correctly if her age is 35 or plus. The ovaries release significantly fewer eggs, which is not suitable for the body and the pregnancy procedure.
Hormonal Imbalance: Hormones play a prominent role in female reproduction and fertility. The hormones that control the menstrual cycle are important in the fertility process. Hormonal imbalances occur when the human body produces too much, too little, or discordant hormones essential for steady and regular bodily processes. Imbalanced hormones can become a significant cause of female infertility.
PCOS: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - PCOS has become a prevalent problem in women lately. It terminates fertility in females by producing uncontrolled male hormones in the body.
How does Ayurveda treat infertility in women?
The ayurvedic approach regarding infertility in women focuses on treating the disease via the body's self-healing mechanisms and powers. Ayurvedic science does not rely on modern medications or any outside substance to cure the disease. Ayurveda provides a comprehensive view of providing more significant health and a better quality of life.
According to Ayurvedic science, "Shukra Dhatu", a tissue responsible for the production of eggs in a female body and sperm in a male body, gets weakened and results in infertility. This weakness arises due to a lack of proper nutrition, poor digestion, poor diet, or the presence of toxins in the body.
Treatment of Female Infertility In Ayurveda:
Ayurvedic treatment improves egg quality, conceiving power, ovulation, and other related infertility problems in women. Here are a few Ayurvedic treatments which can cure female infertility:
Gokshura: Gokshura is an ayurvedic herb that helps to improve female infertility. It helps cure one of the most prominent reasons for infertility in women, PCOS. It plays a role of a fertility tonic that stimulates the ovaries.
Lodhra: Lodhra is an ayurvedic remedy that helps fight against toxins that prevent conception and the conceiving power of the female body. It also regulates essential reproductive and conception hormone levels like the Follicle Stimulating Hormone.
Shatavari: Shatavari medicine contains estrogen-rich compounds essential for women's fertility. This medicine helps stimulate ovulation. It provides nourishment to the ovum.

Apart from these herbal medicines, ayurvedic focuses on a proper diet to cure infertility. Foods like almonds, walnuts, sesame, pumpkin seeds, and dairy products like ghee, milk, etc., are very beneficial in curing infertility. Such foods can help women enhance and maintain the "Shukra Dhatu" levels in their bodies.
The Ayurvedic concept of "Vata - Dosha" is related to the reproductive system in a female's body. Due to this, Ayurveda focuses on the control of stress and the regulation of the ovulation process.
Before starting any medication, it is vital to remember to consult a doctor in order to avoid any further consequences and side effects.
